- 5th Annual Freshman Send-off and Alumni Reception

Dean Sri Zaheer joined more than 100 alumni to celebrate the 11th annual Summer Social at the New York Central Park Boathouse. Catherine Mathis, ’75 BSB and ’79 MBA, and Bob Kueppers, ’76 BSB, from the Carlson School Board of Overseers also joined for this special celebration of New York City alumni.
The Carlson School’s San Francisco Bay Area Alumni Chapter continues to be extremely active. Most recently, the chapter hosted its annual welcome reception in San Francisco for current students interning in the Bay Area, recent graduates of all Carlson School programs, and new alumni to the area. The chapter is proud to announce this year’s recipient of the Carlson School’s San Francisco Bay Area alumni scholarship, Emily Kilgore, ’17 BSB. The scholarship is awarded annually to an underclassman who has an interest in a career in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Seattle Alumni Chapter held a speaker event featuring Jim Weber, ’82 BSB and CEO of Brooks Running. The chapter is working to build community and networking opportunities for the growing number of Carlson School alumni in the Seattle area.
On August 24, the 3M Carlson Club hosted MBA Programs Assistant Dean Phil Miller to discuss how current students can make the most of their MBA experience. Miller was especially excited to speak to this audience since he was a former business manager at 3M before joining the Carlson School as Director of the Carlson Consulting Enterprise.
In the spring, the Best Buy Alumni Club expanded from a Carlson School-specific group to include all University of Minnesota alumni currently working at the company. Since its kick-off, it has launched an internal mentorship program and has continued a strong partnership with Project SUCCESS. The group also attended its annual Dreams to Action fundraising breakfast in mid-April and volunteered at its annual Fielding Dreams event at Target Field in late April.
The Target UMN Alumni Network had an incredible opportunity to get a “behind the scenes” tour of the TCF Bank Stadium. Former Gopher wide receiver and current Target team member Logan Hutton hosted the tour with current Gopher Football staff. This event had the Alumni Network members beaming with Gopher pride and excitement for the football season to begin. Ski-U-Mah!
The UHG Carlson School Alumni Group recently hosted a happy hour at Jake’s City Grille in Eden Prairie, providing an excellent opportunity for summer interns to socialize with full-time employees. Later this month the group is sponsoring a presentation and social with John Cosgriff, senior vice president of strategy and new ventures at United Healthcare Medicare & Retirement.
